About Genbumom

Simple love.

Simple. Love.

Earthy Mommy

Inspiration from nature.

Welcome! My name is Sara. I reside in the Midwest with my family (husband and two children) who inspire me daily to be a better mom, wife, and friend. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English with a Minor in American Culture Studies from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

My hobbies include reading classic literature, writing, sketching, painting, amateur photography, watching independent films, and crafting DIY home projects.  I work full time as a Quality Analyst & Department Trainer. I have a passion for learning and educating others! I was inspired by my love of researching and teaching to start this blog and share knowledge about organic living.

  • Over the past 12 years, I have been an  environmental activist (SEAC, Clear the Air, Green Corps, Monroe County Humane Association) and most recently a childhood food allergy advocate.
  • The past 4 years our family has changed to organic and Non-GMO food choices.
  • The past year I have become an avid Non-GMO advocate. I support transparency in our food choices.
  • We have replaced all chemicals in our home with only non-toxic, green, and environmentally friendly products for bath, beauty, and cleaning.

We started label reading more when my son was diagnosed with a life threatening peanut allergy at age 1. He had multiple hive/entire body reactions to eating any products with peanut proteins. We had to shift our entire mindsets about the foods coming into our home.

We started reading everything on the labels and noticed we did not understand what many of these ingredients in our foods were. Our son consumed organic milk and fruits/veggies since he was on solids at 6 months old (he was solely breastfed until then) but we had so much more to change. It was very alarming (the ingredients, hormones, and chemicals allowed in our foods) and very overwhelming (the peanut allergy).  We started small, continued to do research and persisted.

We have eliminated as much as possible from our diets: GMO’s (genetically modified organisms,) food dyes, additives, soda, excess sugar, and preservatives. We started taking probiotics, buying organic foods, and eating out less.  I lost 70 pounds after my son was born switching to this lifestyle. I no longer get headaches several times per week. My skin has never been clearer. I have so much energy! My son’s IgE histamine/allergy response levels have reduced dramatically in one year, our doctor is hopeful he will outgrow his peanut allergy (only about 20% of children with peanut allergies outgrow it). We also have become avid essential oil users.

I am busy, but I am truly blessed. I draw energy from re-purposing life into found objects (I adore flea markets)!  I enjoy creating new, healthy recipes using fresh and organic ingredients. I strongly encourage my readers to delve into learning more about organic foods, sustainability practices, and non-toxic living.

Everything we put in, on, or near our bodies is important. You are important. Treat yourself that way!

It can be easy, please join this community of people that care about our earth and each other enough to learn a clean and simple way to live.

Hi Sara! Love what your blog stands for! It is crazy what bad stuff is in our foods and products we put on our bodies. Reading labels is so important. Taking things back to the basics and knowledge is power! I am looking forward to following your blog and learning more as I said earlier, “Knowledge is power”, I love to learn. Best wishes in all you do! Koko:)
